Texing & internet slang for dummies

(The part of the song that I'm talking about starts about halfway through the video)

After hearing this song, I realized how "un-cool" I was according to my kids.
I'd heard this song on t.v. while I was in the other room doing laundry. I couldn't hear all the words to the song but all I know is that it was actually really addicting. It's the kind that just stays in your head {...whether you like it or not}.
I'd strongly recommend you know the words and acronyms to the this type of song before you start singing it and making up your own words. Because if you don't ... your kids will find out how uncool you really are. So to keep yourself from embarrassment like me, I recommend you study up on your texting and Internet slang. Here is a very helpful link. Enjoy :)

Little Bit Baker: Birthday Waffles

Original recipe from How Sweet It Is

My DD just turned 10 yesterday. (Double digits as she reminds me).
"Breakfast In Bed" was a Briggs family tradition. This is something I've carried on to my own family.  This year I wanted to try my pinterest find... "Cake batter pancakes" (which I converted into "Birthday Waffles").

They were fun to try, and not as sugary as you might think. Perfect for any Birthday breakfast!

Birthday Waffles

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup yellow cake mix
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk (can add up to an additional cup if needed)
2 T. canola oil
assorted sprinkles

Combine flour, cake mix, baking powder, sugar and salt in a bowl and mix. Add 1 cup of milk, egg, oil and vanilla extract and stir until smooth. You want the batter to look like regular pancake/waffle  batter; not too thin, not too thick. This will vary greatly on the brand of cake mix you use. Start with 1 cup of milk and add more if needed. I suggest a small taste test as well to see if the pancakes are flavored enough.
Preheat a skillet or waffle iron on medium heat Fold desired amount of sprinkles into batter. Pour batter in 1/4 cup measurements onto skillet or waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Serve with vanilla glaze.

Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tablespoon milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
assorted sprinkles
Mix milk, extract and powdered sugar until glaze forms. You may need to add a little more sugar or water/milk to reach desired consistency. Mix into glaze and drizzle on pancakes.

LDS Blog Train: Forget Me Not

Welcome everyone!

One of my favorite talks from the General Relief Society Meeting last September was from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf about the "Forget Me Not".
What a wonderful and inspiring talk it was.  It was exactly what I needed to hear.

Friday Freebie: "You Is" Print Download

Living on this itty bitty island here in Alaska has many ups and downs.  A big down is entertainment, or the lack of. I guess people figure that it's so beautiful here, who'd want to stay indoors to do something? Me!  I do! :)

Although I really do love the outdoors, it's just nice to occasionally do something "normal". Like see a movie! Our movies usually on stay in the theater one week.  If you happen to miss it, you're out of luck.

When the movie "The Help" came out, I desperately wanted to see it.  I realized on the last day of the showing that if I didn't see it that night, chances were I wouldn't see it until I could get it on netflix. So my sweet husband took me on a date to go see it.

We both LOVED it!  What a wonderful movie. One of my favorite scenes was when Aibileen said "You is kind, You is Smart, You is Important".
That is my inspiration for todays Friday Freebie.

Enjoy!

How to add floating social media buttons in blogger

 1. Download your fovorite social media icon buttons.  There are lots of freebies out there, just google. The ones I used are from Icon Dock : Vector Social Media Icons.
2. Edit in your favorite photo editing program.
(Illustrator, Photoshop, PSE, etc.)
I opened the .png icons in PSE and used my hue/saturation adjustment levels to match the color of my blog.  I know there are other ways to do this, but this was how I did it.

3. Upload your files to photobucket or other image hosting site.

4. Copy the code below and edit in notepad, word, or other text editing program.

<div id='newnavbar'> <ul> <a href="WEBSITELINKGOESHERE"><img src="DIRECTIMAGELINKGOESHERE" width="50" height="50" alt="TAGLINE GOES HERE" /></a> </ul></div>

5. In the text editor, add your own text, links,  and desired image size in the correct location.
(See sample below)
Copy your new code (ctrl + c).
6. Log in to blogger.
Click on "Layout".
Click on "Add a gadget".
Click on  "HTML/JavaScript"

In the content box paste (ctrl + v) your new code. Press save.

Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy your new buttons!
